Why do we run again for Placer Union High School District?

“A school Board member takes on one of the most important citizen responsibilities - overseeing the education of the community’s youth.”

- Rob Hitchcock

The last several years have been particularly difficult for all of us to navigate. We are just now returning to some semblance of normalcy on our campuses. It is amazing how much positive energy is radiating from our high school campuses - everybody is feeling it.

As a father, educator and coach with over 30 years in our District, I have witnessed the needs, strengths, and differences in each of our schools. As a Board member, I bring that knowledge to the table with the goal of creating educational programs and opportunities that meet the unique local needs and reflect the differences within a school without compromising high performance expectations and standards.

Working with my current fellow Board members, I believe we will continue to provide a quality educational setting in a safe and culturally rich environment that will best provide for our students, parents and community.

I feel very strongly about continuing to provide a safe and secure environment for our students, while still ensuring opportunities for them to interact with our communities. We have had and continue to have an outstanding relationship with our local law enforcement partners. Each of our campuses have School Resources Officers (SROs) that are an intrical part of our schools’ culture. We work closely with these partners to produce annual safety plans and coordinate events that benefit from their support and insights. As a board, we plan to continue to nurture and grow this relationship throughout our school district.

I also support the efforts of our board and administrative team to continue to grow more educational options for our students. Whether it is dual enrollment with our community college partners, independent study through our Maidu Virtual Charter Academy, or our internship options through our alternative education sites at Confluence, I think we are really making a difference in our students’ lives and our overall community. Next steps are for us to expand our Career Technical options (CTE) for our students. We are in the planning stages of some major opportunities in the CTE world that are very exciting to be a part of. I would love to continue to have a seat at that table.

Lastly, as a representative of Area 1 which includes Colfax and Foresthill High Schools, I am looking forward to moving ahead with needed facilities upgrades. Most recently we have formalized the design process for much needed site improvements at Foresthill High School. We will be adding a multi-service snack bar and restroom facility that will improve access for spectators and community members who attend our many athletic and academic events.

Why do we run again for Placer Highschool United School district?

“I want to continue the tradition of strong, community-minded leadership of the school board with a shared vision of quality education for all students.”

- Maureen “Mo” Ward

I am running for re-election to the Placer Union High School District in order to maintain the strong leadership team our board has developed. We share a vision of quality education for all students.

The last couple of years have been a challenge for our students, teachers, support staff, administration, board and communities. I want to reestablish student and parent connections as we continue building on our schools’ excellence and cultures.

As a board, we work to provide a safe, positive, inclusive and supportive environment emphasizing student’s social, emotional, physical and mental well-being while offering many educational opportunities.

While we’ve achieved an excellent college acceptance rate we acknowledge that not all students want to continue into college. Our high schools support twelve of fifteen possible Career Technical Education Pathways, many leading to certification or into trade school or junior college programs.

We lead the state in the number of dual-enrollment classes (high school plus college credit), support an International Baccalaureate program at Colfax High - available to all students in the District - and continue to offer Advanced Placement classes.

Our students excel in athletics, visual and performing arts, Future Farmers of America and multiple clubs and organizations.

I’m proud of the District’s success, and the small but vital role I’ve played in the community.
